• Dancer Job Description

    A dancer is someone whose occupation is dancing. Their job involves moving the feet and body rhythmically to interpret music, tell stories or express ideas or emotions. Dancers usually specialize in one form of dance, such as ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz, hip-hop or Latin dance.

    A dancer should be enthusiastic, disciplined, diligent, creative, confident, observant and detail-oriented, and have a flexible body and strong feet, ankles, legs and back. They should know their body and their physical weaknesses to avoid injuries.

    Pursue a career in dancing if you have creativity, dancing talent and a strong determination to succeed. You should be someone who enjoys performing in front of an audience.
  • What does Dancer do?

    Dancers may do some or all of the following:

    • attend dance classes and take cues from choreographers
    • work with choreographers and fellow dancers to develop and perfect new dance moves
    • learn and perform dance sequences and routines until moves are perfected
    • audition for dance roles
    • dance in front of an audience or camera

  • Working Conditions

    Dancers may work long and unsociable hours including evenings, mid nights, weekends and public holidays. They work in rehearsal rooms, halls, studios, theatres, nightclubs, hotels and cruise ships. They may work in conditions that are noisy, hot or dark. They may also travel and be away from home for an extended period of time.

  • What is Required to Become Dancer ?

    There are no educational requirements to become a dancer, as all you’ll need is dancing talent and skills. However, studying under an experienced dancer or in a vocational dance school can be very helpful in developing your dancing talent and obtaining new dancing skills.
