• Agricultural Engineering Technician Job Description

    An agricultural engineering technician is a person who provides technical support and technical help to an agricultural engineer in designing, building, maintaining, and/or repairing equipment and machinery used in the food and agriculture industry.

    An agricultural engineering technician should be enthusiastic, quick-witted, analytical and methodical, and have the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints. They should also have the ability to clearly and concisely communicate their ideas verbally and through the use of writing and images.

    Agricultural engineering technicians may do some or all of the following:

    • assist agricultural engineers in the design and develop of agricultural equipment and machinery
    • read and interpret technical drawings and plans
    • set up equipment used for scientific and engineering research
    • install, inspect, service and repair agricultural equipment and machinery
    • instruct farmers on how to use agricultural equipment and machinery correctly and safely
    • market and sell agricultural equipment and parts for agricultural equipment manufacturers
    • stay up to date with developments in the field
    • assist in writing technical reports and proposals

  • Working Conditions

    Agricultural engineering technicians usually work normal office hours, but may sometimes work evenings and weekends, and may be on call. They work in factories, workshops, offices and farms, and may travel to farming sites for work. Workshop and factory works may involve working in noisy and dirty environments and around heavy machinery or at heights.
