• Architectural Technician Job Description

    An architectural technician is a person who provides technical support to an architect in drafting construction and design plans for buildings. Architectural technicians work under the guidance of architects and help interpret construction drawings and specifications produced by them to construction workers.

    An architectural technician should be enthusiastic, analytical, imaginative and creative, and have the ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and explain them to others. They should have an aptitude for mathematics and a strong sense of design. They should also be able to relate to a wide range of people and manage a team.

    Architectural technicians may do some or all of the following:

    • provide assistance to architects designing buildings
    • liaise between building design team and construction team
    • read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
    • give advice on choosing building materials
    • manage construction team and carry out site observation to ensure compliance with the construction blueprint

    Architectural technicians usually work normal office hours, but may be required to work overtime to meet deadlines. They work indoors in offices and outdoors in construction sites where they supervise construction workers.
