    A bank worker is a person who is employed by a bank to carry out administrative duties and handle customer transactions with the bank. Bank workers conduct general office tasks and help customers with financial transactions and other services.

    A bank worker should be well organized, quick-thinking, careful, polite, friendly and helpful, and have excellent cash handling skills. They should have an in-depth knowledge of the products and services offered by their bank and the ability to communicate effectively to explain the products and services to customers in the simplest of ways.

    • greet customers warmly, listen and respond to their enquiries
    • answer questions, give advice and assist customers
    • operate office equipments such as computers, photocopiers, printers and filing cabinets

    • receive deposits, process cash withdrawals
    • validate and cash checks
    • record all transactions and prepare balance sheets
    • help customers covert currencies
    • follow all bank policies and procedures

    Bank workers usually work normal office hours, but may sometimes work extra hours and weekends to meet deadlines or respond to emergencies. They usually work indoors in banking halls, which can be crowded and rowdy at times. They may travel for trainings and conferences or to meet with clients in their homes.

    There are no standard educational requirements to become a bank worker, but a diploma or degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, business administration or a related discipline is helpful. Most banks provide on the job training for their new recruits.
