    eWorker connects companies to elite talent in Africa. We are hiring a Data Scientist with 1-3 years. Position is in Victoria Island, Lagos.

    Job Details

    Our client is a data and information company focused on providing high quality information to professionals in Africa. They are commercialising data for governments, international organisations and private companies within African markets, while also providing excellent consultancy services to help data-driven companies drive growth. Their current public platforms includes election datasite and business publication. They now have a new opening due to expansion for an experienced Data Scientist.

    Summary

    We are looking for a Data Scientist to analyze large amounts of raw information to find patterns that will help improve our company. We will rely on you to build data products to extract valuable business insights.

    In this role, you should be highly analytical with a knack for analysis, math and statistics. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data. We also want to see a passion for machine-learning and research.

    Your goal will be to help our company analyze trends to make better decisions.

    What you will do:

    • Selecting features, building and optimising classifiers using machine learning techniques
    • Data mining using state-of-the-art methods
    • Extending our datasets with third party data when needed
    • Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
    • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
    • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner

    Like to have:

    • Must have expert level Python experience as well as experience with common data science toolkits, such as Pandas, Numpy and Scikit-Learn
    • Must have experience with data visualisation tools, such as Seaborn, GGplot, etc.
    • Must have proficiency in using query languages, such as SQL
    • Must have great communication skills
    • Should have good applied statistics skills in statistical testing, regression, etc.
    • Must have at least intermediate level experience working with cloud services like AWS
    • Should have good scripting and programming skills

    Additionally, the following would make you more attractive:

    • An excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.
    • Experience conducting statistical tests on networks and using network and graph visualisation libraries
    • A postgraduate or research degree in Statistics, Data Science or Economics (with a heavy focus on Econometrics)
